Sharing personal stories fosters connection, support, and understanding within the LGBTIQ+ community.Here, individuals share their journeys, highlighting both the challenges and triumphs they have faced. Connecting with people who understand what you’re going through can provide a sense of belonging and support – but those people aren’t always easy to find! Young people who are transgender, nonbinary, and/or people of color reported higher rates than their peers.

MMHLA Launches New Perinatal Mental Health Training Database for Health Care Professionals

More than one billionpeople worldwide were affected by mental or addictive disorders in 2016. Mental health promotion activities, which includes building Positive Mental Health (PMH) have been shown to reduce the risk of future development of mental disorders and to improve mental well-being. Women, children and adolescents, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ + community, elderly, the impoverished and those living in remote and inaccessible areasconstitute these groups. Positive Mental Health interventions focuson well-being and health promoting activities, rather than on illness.

Our work is led by young, queer, trans, people/of color, and their allies from low-income communities in Maine who address homelessness, criminalization, racism, and health issues from the seat of personal experience. Portland OutrightPortland Outright is a youth-led, membership organization building the power of LGBTQ+ young people in Maine (aged 14-25) through intersectional organizing for LGBTQ+, racial, and economic justice. Project LazarusProject Lazarus provides transitional housing to individuals living with HIV in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) of New Orleans The MCC of New Orleans offers a safe and holy place to worship with particular outreach to the LGBTQ community.

Damien CenterThe Damien Center provides medical services including HIV/STI and pregnancy testing, counseling, housing and career support, legal resources, and a food pantry. They offer support groups for LGBTQ+ communities of all ages, resources and information for community members and health providers, and advocacy and education opportunities. Middlesex Health – Mayo Clinic Care NetworkThey offer primary care, infectious disease testing and treatment, behavioral health services, hormone therapy, gender transition surgery, and a variety of other supportive programs. Transgender Center of the RockiesThe Transgender Center of the Rockies provides holistic gender-affirming services to support transgender and gender-expansive individuals. STRIDE Community Health CenterSTRIDE offers a multitude of health services for the LGBTQIA+ community in the Denver metro area, including services in primary care, affirmative health, mental health, family planning, pediatrics, as well as sexual health and wellness. They offer full primary care, HIV screening and treatment, PrEP/PEP, cancer screenings, and transgender health services including medical case management and hormone therapy.

They provide multiple support groups and mental health resources including their Genderscope program which provides a safe space and discussion group for transgender, gender nonconforming, and gender-questioning youth.
